Can You See Yourself in Gabby’s Story?

Gabby had worked all her life…

in a job that she had out of college. When it was time to retire, she followed what everyone else did and enjoyed life. After all she had earned it. She had worked hard all her life and now she was going to travel and relax and have fun. She had dreams about what life was going to look like in her retirement years and she was going to live those dreams!

So the first year that she was retired…

she traveled and read books and slept in and got up whenever she wanted. This was fun for the first year, but going into the second year she began to get depressed. She didn’t feel like she had purpose in her life anymore. When she worked, she had energy and vitality and passion. Now she had nothing. She was bored of traveling and fixing her house and volunteering. She longingly remembered her job and how purposeful she had felt.

One day…

she had lunch with Ruth. Ruth had told her about the exciting things she was learning from the Kingdom coach.  Gabby wondered if it was too late or if she was too old to discover if she had any dreams or passions left. For she wondered what was wrong with her, because everyone her age seemed to be enjoying their retirement years. Gabby felt like maybe there was a little hope of doing something purposeful.  She met with the Kingdom coach… and she liked her right away. There was something about the coach that surprised Gabby. She thought that the coach was going to just tell her what her problem was and fix it and she would be on her way. The Kingdom coaches approach, was a little different. She had assignments that didn’t always make sense. She just began to do the assignments and trust and relax. They began to be kind of fun. Without her realizing it, she began to change. Some of the things that she always wanted to do, but she talked herself out of, she was doing. She was finding her next season. Even her family and friends noticed that something was changing about her.

One day the Kingdom Coach asked her a question…

that made Gabby think. A light bulb came on inside her head of a business that she always wanted to start. The plan was starting to form. Through the help of the Kingdom coach, Gabby started a new business.  It took courage because she was retired and she was a little afraid and she didn’t always know what she was doing. As she prayed about it, she knew that God was prompting her to take this step. Gabby learned everything she could from the Kingdom coach and started her new business. She was so grateful that she did. She was happy and excited about her business and deep down it was so satisfying to be living her purposes and dreams. She forgot that at one time she was depressed, because she was so happy and filled with joy.
