Taking a STEP

“Courage, dear heart.” –C.S. Lewis

Last year I had the joy and privilege to take my granddaughter to preschool. She always got into the car with excitement and laughter and expectation. As soon as we pulled up to the preschool things changed. Some days she didn’t want to get out of the car.Others I had to talk about all the awesome things she would be doing that she could look forward to.My desire was to help her family, but I also wanted to be part of this journey or growth and courage and making new friends.

So I thought...

I don’t know how I thought of it, honestly I do believe it was a God thing, because my encouragement was growing thin of why we should go into preschool.I suggested we take a selfie and send it to our family before we went through the door. She loved it!

Everyday we took...

Everyday we went we took a selfie rain or shine.I wonder what the picture meant to her?Did it give her courage?Did it communicate that I loved her and believed in her?Or was it the right thing to do in the moment for her to forget that we were at preschool?

Whatever was really going inside her little heart, it became clearthat the selfies affirmed her heart and gave her courage. She was always happy when I picked her up, so that little boost of a picture helped her to take the next step.

In so many ways I am not very different than my granddaughter.Life seems hard at times.Scary.Hopeless.We are told that we can expect a new normal, but I don’t know what that new normal will be. I like the words by C.S. Lewis, “Courage dear heart” because it gives me courage in an unknown time.It affirms my heart that to take the next step too.

Affirm your heart...

Here’s to all of us stepping into our new “normals”.Tell me how you are affirming your heart?
